13/08/25BEST TOUR COMPANY IN EGYPT Without doubt the best company to travel with in Egypt. Firstly, addressing the elephant in the room...the areas that we visited in Egypt are completely safe, regardless of the current situation in neighboring countries. Ibrahim and his team made sure to explain where we would be traveling, in relation to the ongoing issues in the region. That aside, we never once felt anything but safe. The Egyptian people are some of the nicest and friendliest in the world and I felt grateful that they shared their country with us and made the trip so much fun for us. This was simply one of the best trips I have done in my life. It's been a dream of mine to come to Egypt since I was a kid, learning about Ancient Egyptian life so expectations were high and Egypt Tours Gate delivered, over and above. Ibrahim arranged everything for us and was flexible in adjusting the trip to suit what we wanted to see and do, and to fit our budget. The whole trip was seamless. Everything from the airport pick-ups to the drivers (Mustafa, our Cairo driver, is one of the best drivers I've ever seen - when you see Egyptian driving, you'll appreciate this) to the internal flights..to the hotels...to the Felucca...to the meals and excursions...SEAMLESS! Our Guides - Peter is an Egyptologist and historian. He took us through Aswan, Abu Simbel & Luxor and was with us for 4 days. He was so incredibly organized…had all of our tickets in advance so there was no queuing or waiting around…he knew the best times to go to things and the best spots to take pictures. A really engaging guy. Great sense of humor. Incredibly knowledgeable, not just about the architecture or factual history...but also the salacious stories and scandal of the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and their families (I'm a slave to celebrity gossip, and the like, so this was a huge green tick for me). And he went above and beyond to entertain us on an extra excursion in Luxor one of the evenings, where he didn’t have to. He was, in many ways, the sixth member of our group. Always turning around in the car to answer our questions and share his insights or get involved in our family banter. He also taught us a new card game one of the evenings! Ahmed is an Egyptologist and a historian. He took us through our Cairo (Giza, Saqara & Old Cairo) and Alexandria trips and was with us for 3 days. He is beyond knowledgeable of Ancient Egyptian history and also the span of history post Pharaohs (i.e the Romans, the Christians, the Persians, the Arabs...right up to current day). It's a great wonder of the world in itself that one man has so much knowledge in his head. I hadn't fully appreciated the richness of Egyptian history before I met Ahmed. He also had a great sense of humor, a great way of explaining things and was really easy-going, while being so professional. Always keen to answer questions and engage in chat with my family and he is one of the best photographers. He knows all of the angles! He also knew all of the best restaurants in the areas we were staying and we just really really enjoyed his company. If you take a tour with Egypt Tours Gate...you MUST request these two guides. Do - ALL of the above ... plus… 1. Take a Felucca in Aswan on the Nile but only do one night...it's enough... 2. If you can, add a couple of days in the middle of your trip to chill out in Hugharda. We didn't and we wish we had. While we had no problem with our trip, at all...we squeezed a lot in to 8 days and we could have used some time to decompress and digest the enormous amount of information that had been shared. 3. Buy a data card at the airport for your phone for mobile data, as wifi can be sketchy or enjoy the rare opportunity to feel off-the-grid 4. Hot Air Balloon over Luxor and the Valley of the Kings 5. When you get to Abu Simbel, hang back for a while and let the crowds pass. We got there around 12:30 - towards the end of the convoy of visitors. People pass through the temple quite quickly and if you hang back a little while you can have the whole place to yourself. Maybe see Nefertari's temple first and then come back to Abu Simbel. 6. Stay in Zamalek when you're in Cairo city. It's a buzzing part of town, in a fun way. Loads of great shops and restaurants. Safe to walk around. Staying in Giza is important for seeing the Pyramids but it’s worth a move in hotels to Zamalek for anything else you want to see in Cairo. DON'T - 1. Get too wound up with the sellers in markets. We came to just accept this is part of the culture. "La Shukran" is your new favorite phrase. It means No Thank You and is highly effective. 2. Forget to get lots of small change for when you're on the move. You'll need it for bathroom visits and general tipping. This is also part of the culture.
