Spend a wonderful day in Alexandria, the beautiful coastal city. Begin with the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, a Roman subterranean tomb dating back to the 1st century A.D., showing the strong influence of Egyptian mythology and burial customs on the Romans. Descend 75 feet to see the impressive blend of Egyptian and Roman art. After exploring the maze-like tomb, go upstairs and enjoy the Mediterranean breeze at the Fort of Qaitbay. The fort was built on the island of Pharos, where the Great Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. From the top, enjoy views of the blue sea and the city. Finally, visit the modern Library of Alexandria, a revival of the ancient library built by Ptolemy I. Explore the exhibits and the latest technologies in this great cultural and knowledge center.
